Need to look for the torque on those bolts, and check them out, just in case they're not tightened properly. Note the rust is above the line of threaded holes, but not below it. No idea what's behind that 'channel'.įinally, even if the leak continues, it should be something very simple to fix, no? It has to be a seal on the water pump, since that 'channel' is behind it. Not sure of where the coolant is leaking, but the rust is due to the coolant dropping below the level of the rust - the head is rusting due to the warm moist air above the coolant level. I don't think it was where the pipes go into the housing, because they're to the right of that 'channel'. But the question remains WHERE did it leak from. Maybe coolant dried out on a seal, and leaked a little until all the hardened coolant slipped out? Because remember when I found it, the engine was still running, and it wasn't leaking anymore the whitish coolant residue was dry already. but the better test will be after it sits for another period of time.
